Capturing Snow With On Camera Flash

I’ll start by saying I’ve never been big on using flash for my photography. I’ve always liked to keep things simple and make use of natural light. For some reason (and I don’t know why), I always perceived photography with artificial light as a kind of cheesy, over-dramatic look or style.

When done correctly or used in the right scenario, it can give you more creative control with your photos. In some instances, the use of flash or strobes should be utilized to create a more pleasing image.

In this case, a snow storm blew in and I decided to take my camera out for some snowy photos. I wanted to capture the snow falling from the sky and the best way to do this was with a flash in order to illuminate and freeze the snow flakes. I just used the Fujifilm XF-E8 flash on my XPro3.
